Portuguese Culture Week in Croatian school

In anticipation of the journey of students and teachers in Madeira, a week of getting to know Portugal was held at the Matija Petar Katančić Elementary School.
As part of the Erasmus project “Playing with maths”, the eighth graders of our school went on another mobility to a primary school on the island of Madeira, an autonomous Portuguese region.

In order to get to know our project partners better, a series of activities was carried out in which students and teachers from all over the school participated. The teachers of our school designed and conducted activities in the Week of Portuguese Culture from 8 to 12 November 2021.

The students studied cultural heritage: music, folk costumes, food and the like; they got to know the sights and architecture of larger Portuguese cities. Under the mentorship of Maja Huis, the seventh-graders learned traditional Portuguese dance, and Nora Pastulović, an eighth-grader, sang fado like an experienced music diva. Nora was prepared by teacher Sandra Lovrinčević.

The students say that it is interesting for them to get to know countries, peoples and cultures. Erasmus projects and activities such as these influence the understanding of other people’s cultures and develop multicultural competencies.
